Apple's new Apple TV 4K costs $299 in the United States and arrives in stores on November 13. It brings hands-free Siri, a faster chip and an easier-to-find remote. But if Siri AI is the reason you want one, check your current setup first: Apple says the new assistant also works as a beta on Apple TV 4K models from the second generation onward, with a compatible iPhone or iPad.
What does the new box add?
The fourth-generation Apple TV 4K has three microphones for speaking to Siri without picking up the remote. Apple limits this hands-free feature to nine primary tvOS languages; Romanian is not on that list. Its A19 chip includes a dedicated AV1 video decoder, and Apple says the box feels faster to use. The new Siri Remote can play a sound when lost. Precision Finding also needs a compatible recent iPhone, current software and regional support. A software update will not add microphones or a new chip to an older box.
Apple also describes a four-speaker surround-sound setup. It requires the new Apple TV 4K plus four HomePod mini 2 or second-generation HomePod speakers in matching front and rear pairs. Count the full cost before treating that as an upgrade benefit.
Where will Siri AI work?
At launch, Apple lists Siri AI in English in the United States, Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and the United Kingdom. It is a beta in tvOS 27.2. The Home app's home owner must have an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad on the latest software, with Siri AI turned on in a supported language. Apple has not announced a Romanian launch in this release and says Siri AI will not initially be available in the EU on iOS or iPadOS. The new hardware is available to pre-order in the U.S. and 29 other countries and regions, but hardware availability and Siri AI availability are separate questions.
Apple says Siri AI can answer follow-up questions about shows and help find something to watch. On an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone, it can also use personal context for requests. These are Apple's announced capabilities; we have not tested the new device or the beta.
Should you order now?
If your current Apple TV 4K is a second-generation model or newer, check the phone or tablet requirement and wait to see whether Siri AI reaches your language and region before buying a new box just for it. If hands-free control, a faster device or the four-speaker setup matters to you, compare those specific features with what you already own. Check your local Apple Store for the actual price and pre-order date; $299 is the U.S. price, not a price for every market.
